Electricity consumption is growing faster than the overall economy for the first time in decades — driven by AI data centres, electric mobility and industrial electrification. At the same time, power grids in developed markets largely date from the 1960s and 1970s and are approaching the end of their lifespan.
The IEA forecasts a supply gap of over 2,700 TWh by 2030 — equivalent to the EU's entire annual electricity consumption. Transformer demand is up 274% since 2019, and HVDC cable delivery times now stretch beyond a decade. Global grid investment of USD 5.8 trillion is forecast through 2035.
The "Age of Electricity" AMC invests systematically across three complementary pillars of the electrification value chain:
- Energy & Commodities — raw materials including copper, uranium, lithium and rare earths as the resource foundation
- Utilities & Power — power producers and grid operators with regulated revenues and long-term power contracts
- Equipment & Infrastructure — industrial suppliers of transformers, cables, grid systems and data centre infrastructure.
The portfolio comprises 45 global positions, equally weighted across the three pillars (33% each). Actively managed by IFS Independent Financial Services AG, Investment Advisor: Picard Angst AG.
